WFC50 fuel cell unit

The objective of the project was to productise Wärtsilä’s fuel cell technology. A product identity that reflects the values of environmentally friendly energy technology and the strong Wärtsilä brand, while blending in with its usage environments, was defined during the project. The structure and design of the product were based on maintenance concepts, in which the placement of components was assessed with regard to maintenance requirements and assembly.

There were three important objectives with regard to the design of the WFC50 fuel cell power plant. It had to be possible to maintain the equipment easily in cramped spaces; the design had to convey a sense of modern, clean technology in a way fitting the Wärtsilä brand; and cost-efficient manufacture of the equipment was also a must. It also had to be suitable for indoor and outdoor conditions.
