LINK Design and Development Oy history

LINK is a company with an eventful history. The company’s owners and employees each have their own story to tell. The roots of LINK extend to the early 1990s, to a company called Projektipalveluyhtiöt Oy. This company founded a product development unit, the goal of which was to combine industrial design and mechanical design into one seamless whole. We call this approach integrated product development.

Nowadays, we are a user-oriented company focusing on the productisation and development of customer products and services on the international stage. Our core expertise is integrated product development, meaning the combination of timely information and expertise. LINK is owned by five private individuals working at the company. The entire staff amounts to 35 people.
 

1999   Projektipalveluyhtiöt Oy starts combining design and mechanics engineering, i.e. integrated product development.

2000   Projekti-insinöörit Oy (later PIC Engineering Oy) acquires Konsul Engineer Oy, specialising in 3D modelling.

2001   Projektipalveluyhtiöt merges with Done Solutions Corporation, a company listed on the OMX Helsinki Stock Exchange.

2003   In November, Done Solutions Corporation sells off the entire engineering business to PIC Engineering Oy.

2003   At the end of November, PIC Engineering Oy merges with the Swedish Sweco Group.

2004   Sweco commences integrated product development in Vantaa.

2005   Integrated product development gets its own centre of expertise, named Pro.

2006   Pro is converted into a standalone business unit, which then acquires Linja Design Oy’s design business operations.

2007   Pro participates in the Scandinavian Design Symposium in New York.

2009   LINK Design and Development Oy is founded, and LINK acquires the Pro business operations from the Swedish Sweco Group.

2010   LINK enters into partnership with Sematnetworks Oy, Espotel Oy and Movya Oy.

2011   LINK moves into new offices on Myyrmäentie, Vantaa. International expansion starts in Sweden.
